Some Descendants of

James Albritton

Son of Peter Albritton Sr.

of Pitt County, North Carolina

James Albritton (2 Jul 1761–c1797) was the second son of Peter Albritton Sr. Born on his father's farm on Cow and Cross Swamp south of the Tar River in Pitt County, North Carolina, James served in the North Carolina Militia during the Revolutionary War, fighting in support of the Patriots. He married about 1782 and soon moved to the north side of the Tar River and settled near his uncle, James Albritton Jr., on Grindle Creek. On 18 April 1784, James paid £100 for a 250-acre tract of land that adjoined the lands of his uncle, James Albritton Jr., Henry Cason, and John Cason. This land remained in James' family for the next half-century.

Between 1788 and 1794, most of James Albritton's siblings joined him on Grindle Creek, and his father acquired land there in the 1790s. James Albritton lived on his Grindle Creek farm until his death about 1797 at the age of only thirty-five years.
